Ollie's First Days of Life

Here are some pictures for now.  I will post the birth story soon.  Things take so much longer with a newborn, but I will get around to it.  Oh and if anyone has breast-feeding tips I could use them, our little guy had his Dr appt yesterday and he has lost lots of weight.  If we don't fatten him up a little more by tomorrow we will have to start supplementing.  I just don't think the little guy can suck hard enough and he gets sleepy and falls asleep.  I think these are pretty normal issues but any advice would be appreciated.

Leaving for the hospital Wednesday night
I only slept for like a 1/2 an hour Wednesday night, it was not cool, by morning I was starving
Dilated to a 10 and loving life (after my epidural)
Right after he came out they gave him to me, it was such a special moment

The Miller Family
Grandma and Grandpa Miller
Grandma and Grandpa Wursten
Aunt Chrissy and cousin Alyssa
Alyssa loves her new cousin, she kept saying "Awww he is so little"

Hanging out with the grandparents
He loves to stick his legs straight out, he did it in the womb as well, now I know what I was feeling
Chillin with dad
Jason is so cute with him
Right before we left the hospital
He didn't like being put in his car seat but after he was in he stayed awake and was very content
First family picture at home
Grandma has been staying with us and helping us out, we just love her

So precious
He DID NOT like his first bath (sorry for the graphic picture)
Great grandma and grandpa Wursten
He loves to stick his legs out, it is so funny cause they are so long and skinny
I sucked my arm as a kid and he is continuing the tradition, pretty much he will suck on anything
Us with Aunt Letty
Four generation picture
Ollie's first walk

All curled up and adorable
Napping with Papa
He sleeps with his mouth open sometimes
Going to his first doctors appointment.  He is so little his newborn clothes drown him, we are trying to fatten him up
How cute is he, I am seriously in love with this little guy!!!

He is soooo adorable, I want to squeeze him!! As for nursing--just keep at it. It can be really frustrating at first, you both have to learn how to do it! If it's a problem with latching on, there's something called a shield you can use--it's a thin plastic thing you put over your breast and it has a harder plastic nipple on it to give the baby something to latch on to. I had to use one with my first baby, and it was the only way I was able to nurse her at first. And don't worry about the weight loss, all babies lose weight right at first. I think they want them back up to their birth weight by 2 weeks old. If you're really getting frustrated with nursing, call the hospital and speak to a lactation nurse or somebody from la leche league, they are a great help. Good luck, you can do it!!! :)

Oh Gin he is so precious!! I see a lot of Jason in his face and long runner legs but he definitely has his mother trait of sucking on his arm. How cute!!

oh gin! im dying...hes sooo darn cute! as far as nursing...just dont give up!!! it is usually rough in the begining...it took willow and i about 6 weeks to really get it down. stick with it...you both will be so much better off. nursing is such an amazing blessing. also, if he falls asleep, try rubbing his cheek to get him to keep eating.

It's so crazy to me that just 3 months ago addie was that little. He is TOO precious you guys, the pics just melt my heart. I'm SO excited for you.
My nursing advice would be to pump if you're engorged. Babies have a hard time latching when things are too full, so you may need to deplete your resources to help the little guy out. Definitely keep trying though, nursing is very rewarding. If things dont get better soon, definitely make an appointment with a lactation specialist for some hands on instruction.

Congratulations Ginny and Jason! He is so adorable (and seems very alert for a brand-new newborn). We are really excited for you guys (and I'm especially excited to see that he was born on my birthday...great day to be born). Congrats again.

Congrats!!!!! He is just so sweet and precious. And so tiny! Oh how fun!!! I just LOVE all his hair. He is seriously SO adorable. Isn't being a mom just the BEST! I am so thrilled for you guys. As for nursing...just keep at it. It really does get better and is so rewarding! I agree..talk to a lactation specialist if you are still having a hard time. One of the things that helped Tave...I would get him to start sucking on my finger and then switch to the breast really quickly...I don't know if that's 'proper' but it worked. And ditto on Lori's comment about pumping off a little so it's not so hard for him..that works well too.
Good luck! Can't wait to hear the whole birth story. You look so great Ginny!

You are so good for taking so many pictures of his first days at home! I wish I would've taken more because they seriously change so fast. I got teary-eyed when I saw the picture of him laying on your chest when you first met him, that is so sweet and he's adorable! Congratulations!

what a cutie!! His legs are ridiculous -- so long and skinny! Boston lost some weight after he was born but and so I was concerned too. He started to gain some of it back, but it was slow so I supplemented b/c I was paranoid. It was kind of unnecessary now that I think about it. Anyway, supplementing isn't a big deal, plus it gives Jason the opportunity to feed him once or twice (preferably at night!). If you just keep breastfeeding while you supplement you should eventually get to the point where you don't need to suppl. anymore (at least that's what happened to me). The comment about pumping an ounce or two out before you feed him is good advice, I did that too. I never used one of those shields... who knows if that would have helped. I would tickle Boston's foot if he fell asleep, or you just undress him to not let him get too comfortable.

I am not a mom who looks back at nursing and thinks, that was rewarding and fun. It took me almost 2 months to finally feel no pain plus he would nurse for over an hour and I felt that I was always feeding him. Becky Reynolds and I didn't lose any weight until after we stopped nursing -- although I didn't lose much! Oh my gosh, thinking about going through this all over again is making me anxious... To end this forever comment, nurse if you want and stop if you don't. I beat myself up when I stopped (at 4 mos.)but there is no need to do that. But nursing is tons cheaper!!

Okay he just the most adorable thing I've ever seen! He just gets even more adorable with every picture and I honestly didn't think that could be possible!!! You guys look so happy and great. Gin--you look AMAZING!!! Did you seriously just give birth!!!??? You crazy girl!

Good luck with the nursing thing, it will get better. He'll get the hang of it, it really does take time to work together as a team and both figure it out. I was honestly in pain for 2-3 months straight and then all of a sudden it just got better and nursing was such a great experience. We had a lot of ups and downs the first few weeks too, actually, the first few months. If you don't want to fork out a lot of mula for a lactation specialist it is really cool...there is a national breastfeeing hotline that you can call and have questions answered by a professional. I used it and it was really helpful. The number is 1-800-994-9662. Good luck, you'll get the hang of it soon!!!!

Such and absolutltey adorable little guy!! I love those cute little straight out legs-and that you felt them doing that in utero!
ps. dont feel bad about a little supplementation=---thats what got us over the hump and the SA nursed for more than a year. it was great. Just keep working on it. Use the lansinoh cream, and get some advice from a lactation person if you need it.

I'm with Kristen...just keep trying. But keep in mind, too, some babies just don't have it in them, (remember my fiasco with Tyler and you picking up the pump for me?) some breasts have a funky shape when it comes to latching and the shields work great, and the bottom line is always that formula is GREAT, and Dad can help! Oh, a lactation consultant is great, but LaLecheLeague is a Nazi organization. No, not really, but they're so gung-ho they can actually be mean, so I'd skip them. Good luck, and if you end up supplementing, or skipping the breast completely, a) it's ok, b) you're not alone, and c) he'll still grow up big, strong, and happy...and you'll get more sleep!

Congratulations! He is a very handsom little man! :) I was just reading the other comments and I totally agree with kristen about the nipple shield for breast feeding. It was a lifesaver for me! good luck with everything and enjoy every moment with your precious baby. You'll be amazed how fast he'll grow up.
